MORRISVILLE, NC –The Morrisville Land Use and Transportation Plans have been announced as winners of a 2009 Planning Award from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association.
This award “recognizes plans, programs, or processes of unusually high merit adopted or enacted in the current or past two calendar years.” The Awards Committee was “impressed with the Town of Morrisville’s use of a variety of engaging public involvement techniques, such as the ‘strings and ribbons’ exercise and youth-oriented activities, as well as its efforts to communicate with the community about the project and respond to issues raised by the public. It also liked the inclusion of the design guidance in the Transportation Plan and thought that the action items shared by both plans would serve as a useful guide for plan implementation”. Morrisville was recognized in the category for Comprehensive Planning in Small Communities (under 50,000 population).
Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the plans: the Plan Advisory Committee, Planning & Zoning Board, Town Council, project staff, and project consultants, the Louis Berger Group., Inc.
The award will be presented at the NCAPA annual conference in Greensboro in October. |
